March in Maine is often a transition month - not really Winter, not really Spring - but hopeful. During this month there are a great many things to do in the greater Portland area. For a quick overview of activities and events, we have put together the following list:

March 11-15 Portland Flower Show: The only flower show in Northern New England. This year’s theme is From the Mountains to the Sea. An oasis of spring with displays, vendors and lectures. Portland Company Complex, Fore ST. 775-4403
March 13-29 “Fallen Angels”: An icon of the theater, Noel Coward is known for his flamboyant witty style. Fallen Angels is a spectacle of two middle aged women slowly getting drunk while awaiting the arrival of their mutual lover. March 17 Natalie MacMaster: Fiddling superstar from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, stirs up a rollicking St Patrick’s Day celebration. PCA Great Performances at Merrill Auditorium. 842-0800
March 20-April 5 “Brighton Beach Memoirs”: Growing up in Brooklyn in 1937 is not easy but Neil Simon’s award winning play proves that family issues can be both trying and hilarious. The Portland Players. 799-7337
March 21-April 5 “Cinderella”: This ballet production brings to life the classic fairy tale and is delight for young and old alike. Presented by Maine State Ballet. 781-7672
March 26 The National Acrobats of China: For more than 50 years, this dazzling Company has mesmerized audiences of all ages worldwide. 7 pm. Presented by PCA Great Performances at Merrill Auditorium. 842-0800
March 26 Renewable Energy for Maine: A Future of Sustainability: Naoto Inoue, the president of The Solar Market, will present economic justification for building or converting to solar electric or geothermal systems. Presented by Wolfe’s Neck Farm at Freeport Community Center. 865-4363
March 28 “Giselle”: The quintessential tale of unrequited love, the classic ballet follows Giselle from first love into the afterlife. Presented by Portland Ballet at John Ford Theater. 772-9671
