Thompson’s Point - For Sale

For the first time in over two decades Thompson’s Point is for sale. The 25-acre site, with an addtional 5 acres of wetlands, is considered to be the largest parcel still available for development within the city of Portland, Maine.

Thompson's PointThompson’s Point has a long history of lofty ambitions and little development. As outlined by Tux Turkel in the Portland Press Herald, the site today is occupied by nearly two dozen small businesses, including companies involved with carpentry, electrical services, building restoration, waste disposal, metal fabrication and distribution. Until recently, the area could be accessed ony through ciy streets - now it is connected to I-295 via a new exit ramp, which leads directy to the city’s transportation center.

The property’s current owner, Peter Van Wyck, is now retired from business and hopes to see the property transformed into a “landmark” development that is in-step with the other significant projects currently underway in the city.

Despite its industrial character, Thomspon’s Point is believed to be free of environmental cleanup issues and is zoned for mixed uses.
