Maine Home Sales Reflect National Trend

Real Estate NewsAs a follow-up to our post of June 25th, the Maine Real Estate Information System has released statewide single family sales statistics for the month of May and rolling quarterly results. According to this report existing home sales decreased 18.5% during the month, although wide variations are evident across counties.

The attached charts (May Sales Report) shows sales statistics for Maine and its 16 counties in several ways. The first chart lists sales results for the entire state for the month of May only. The second chart compares the number of existing, single family homes sold (units and dollars) in the rolling quarter of March, April and May 2006 vs 2007.

When statistics for the months of March, April and May 2007 are combined and compared to the same period last year, the statewide median sales price reflected a 1.6% increaase to $195,000. Sales were down 14.5% in this rolling quarter. Our previous report compared month-to-month sales results while this year provides insight into changes year-over-year.
