According to the records reported by the Maine Association of Realtors, August marked the third consecutive month that homes sales, statewide, have increased. During the month 1,095 homes were sold compared to 955 homes in August of 2008, representing an increase of 9.9%
The median price, however, fell from $180,000 to $162,800, for a decrease of 9.6%
It is clear that that $8,000 federal tax credit for first-time homebuyers has helped improved sales this year, especially in the lower price ranges.
